Aconcagua Jacket Review

North Face’s Aconcagua is an extremely lightweight, windproof jacket that is not only comfortable, but surprisingly warm. Perhaps the warmth doesn’t come as all that much of a surprise given the fact that it’s filled with the same 550-fill down insulation that the extremely warm McHaven Parka uses, which I mention in part because it’s one of my favorite cold weather jackets. But the Aconcagua is not the McHaven. They’re quite different. What the Aconcagua offers is a lightweight version of the McHaven without the tough waterproof exterior. It’s great for cold days when you’re out and about running errands, but not so great if you feel like hitting the slopes on your board or skis. Not to say that you can’t wear it to the mountain, but that you’d be better off with a real snowboarding jacket that offers a tough waterproof exterior. But for day to day living, the Aconcagua takes the cake. It’s so light and comfortable that I find myself wearing it while I’m indoors – I literally forget I’m wearing it until I realize how hot I am. That’s how comfortable it is.

Personally I don’t like jackets that feel heavy or give the impression that they’re restricting my movements. This is one of the reasons why I really like this jacket – it’s super light and it just feels like you’re wearing a cloud. Seriously, a cloud. If you’ve never worn a down-filled jacket before, you’re really missing out. It’s an amazing form of insulation – lightweight and warm, what more could you want? If you’re not a fan of the poofy appearance, well, I don’t know what to tell you other than sometimes functionality trumps fashion. Though, as far as I’m concerned, I actually think it looks great. Around here, in the mountains of New England, poofy jackets are all the rage and North Face is certainly no exception. Actually, it’s probably one of the more popular brands around here in this quiet lakeside resort town that I call home. But even if you don’t like the appearance of this jacket, I absolutely dare you to try one on and tell me that you don’t absolutely love the way it feels. It’s just that good.

You can buy the Aconcagua from a lot of places, but I suggest you buy it from this store. They always have amazing deals and they’re one of the most well known retailers on the web. They carry the Aconcagua in various colors and sizes so you shouldn’t have any problem finding one that looks cool and fits well.

If you’re looking for a similar coat that doesn’t look quite so poofy, you may want to check out North Face’s Thermoball Full Zip jacket because it’s basically the same thing, only it doesn’t look as puffy when you wear it.
